Ink painting
I explore new ways to express light by incorporating resin-based paints and metal leaf into *sumi* (traditional ink)—a classic medium capable of a wide range of expression through varying shades alone.
I build up the surface—creating a wall-like or screen-like effect—by applying multiple layers of a resin-paint mixture using a rubber spatula. Before the brush-applied ink dries, I rake through it with a comb.
The accidental forms created by the ink’s bleeding and flowing offer unique, once-in-a-lifetime discoveries, much like a shifting landscape.
By pouring and repeatedly layering *sumi* and acrylic—materials that do not naturally blend—I give form to complex impressions within a two-dimensional space.
